Attended 9th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum

The 9th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum (APAN Forum) was held from September 29 to October 3, 2025, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. The forum was co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), with support from the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the APAN Secretariat.

This event is one of the largest of its kind on climate change adaptation in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share knowledge and experience, and to build partnerships.

The theme of this year’s forum was “Resilience for all: Catalyzing transformational adaptation.” Based on the recognition that conventional, incremental adaptation measures are no longer sufficient, the forum focused on deepening discussions on “transformational adaptation,” which promotes major changes across entire socioeconomic systems.

From Spectee, Satoshi Negoro spoke at a session titled, “Harnessing Adaptation Tools, Early Warning Systems, and Public–Private Partnerships to Unlock Climate Finance and Build Resilience.” In disaster response, the capacity of the public sector alone is not enough, and leveraging the capabilities of the private sector is essential, highlighting the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). Spectee’s expansion in Asia, in cooperation with JICA, the Ministry of the Environment, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is a form of PPP, and we shared our insights from this experience.
