Spectee obtains Forecasting Services License (Flood): The first case using the Artificial Intelligence (AI) models in Japan.

On January 6, 2025, Spectee obtained Forecasting Services License (Flood) from Japan Meteorological Agency. This is the first case in Japan where a license has been granted for a private company’s flood forecasting method utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) models.

Based on this license, Spectee provides highly accurate river level forecasts in real-time using AI models analyzing water level observation data and precipitation forecast data. In particular, Spectee aims to contribute to mitigating damage and promoting prompt evacuation actions by enhancing water level predictions for small- and medium-sized rivers, which are at higher risk during heavy rainfall.

With the acquisition of this license, Spectee is committed to delivering information that helps reduce disaster risks in more regions.

◆Comments from Kenjiro Murakami, CEO of Spectee Inc.

In 2024, global annual average temperature reached the highest level. This trend of rising temperature is not limited to Japan but is observed globally, with predictions of more frequent extreme heat and flood-causing heavy rainfall events worldwide in the future.
Spectee has been advancing R&D activity on predictive technologies utilizing AI to address the growing occurrence of floods and other water-related disasters. Receiving official approval from the Japan Meteorological Agency marks a significant milestone toward the societal implementation of these technologies.

Furthermore, we are actively developing predictive technologies not only for floods but also for a wide range of disaster-related events. We believe that these technologies will eventually contribute to protecting society from disasters, aligning with Spectee’s vision to build resilient societies.
